Good Looking Workers….. ….With a ‘Dual Purpose’ Twist!
Bred for Temperament, Type and Trainability

‘…..Because Life is too short to shoot over an ugly dog!……’

“… If tomorrow was judgement day,
and I’m standing in the front line,
And the Lord asked me what I did with my life
I would say…. ‘I spent it with you’…”

At Wylanbriar we aim to produce and own moderate sized labradors with true biddable temperaments that are equally at home out shooting and on the sofa.

We are a small kennel with between 8 and 10 Labradors and we have one maybe two litters a year at most. All our dogs spend a lot of time in the house and our oldies stay with us to live out their lives, indoors, in comfort.

We actively work all our dogs both in the beating line and picking up. They all run, if good enough, in working tests and, in field trials and are occasionally shown including at Crufts each year in the Gamekeeper ring. We REALLY care that the breed remains true to its origins of being able to turn its paw to anything! Our dogs also occasionally run in obedience competitions and take their kennel Club canine good citizen awards. We only use stud dogs on our girls who, alongside good health scores, have been either or both shown and worked to good effect. It makes finding excellent husbands difficult, but that is our passion.

We are proud to have bred ourselves six youngsters who are in the Dogs for the Disabled Assistance programme, currently training, and one bitch who completed training but it was decided to take on as a DFTD Brood bitch. Our stud dogs also have many puppies, bred by others, in both DFTD training and in service and also working for Canine Partners for Independance. We count this as one of our greatest of all achievements in breeding and do all we can to support both charities.

The huge responsibility of producing puppies is taken very seriously and our stud dogs are stood to only approved bitches. I judge at open show level and am on the breed club B List. Myself and Allan also judge Field Trials and Working Tests. I was a working test secretary for 8 years and am currently the Field Trial Secretary for one of the premier Gundog clubs in the South of England, SEGS. We sell puppies mostly into loving family and pet homes but competition and shooting homes are considered subject to certain conditions.

All our dogs and bitches are BVA/KC hip scored, eye tested, elbow scored and Optigen DNA tested. We also use some of the other available DNA tests for our breed if we see a need. Advice always willingly given and training for all puppies offered.
